Waste Management (WM) is the largest waste services company in North America and operates roll-off service across Northeast Florida out of regional facilities including the Trail Ridge complex in Jacksonville. They are a competent operator at scale. The reason Jacksonville-market contractors and homeowners ask for a Waste Management alternative is almost never about the truck showing up; it is about the pricing structure and the post-sale experience.
The WM-specific issues we hear about most
The most common WM complaints we hear from contractors switching accounts: a quoted base rate that lands 25 to 40 percent higher on the invoice once the WM Fuel & Environmental Charge (FEC), administrative fee, and any per-ton overage are added; auto-renewing service contracts that quietly extend the per-pull rate with annual price escalators; long hold times on the WM customer service line for swap requests; and post-billing dispute resolution routed through a national back-office that does not have visibility into the local Jacksonville route.
What changes when you move WM service to us
Three things change immediately. First, the quote becomes the invoice. The flat rate already includes delivery, 14 days of rental, included tonnage, pickup, disposal, and the applicable county franchise fee. There is no FEC, no admin fee, and no separately billed delivery line. Second, the phone is answered locally by the people running dispatch, not by a national queue. Same-day swap requests get a same-day answer when route capacity allows, and the dispatcher knows the address from past pulls. Third, there is no auto-renewing contract. Service runs per-pull or per-account at a rate we hold for the term we agreed to in writing.
What does not change
Container sizes are the same (10, 15, 20, 30 yard). Disposal happens at the same class of licensed Florida solid-waste and C&D facilities WM uses, with proper documentation provided on request for commercial accounts. Pickup is scheduled to your project calendar, not a fixed weekly route. We are not selling a different product than WM; we are selling the same service with a different pricing structure and a different customer service model.
What WM does that we do not
WM operates curbside residential garbage and recycling collection contracts in many municipalities, runs landfills and transfer stations directly, and provides commercial front-load and rear-load garbage service nationwide. We do not. If your business needs front-load garbage service, weekly residential pickup, or you are a municipality awarding a curbside contract, WM is one of the bidders and we are not. Our scope is roll-off, demolition, and trash compactor service across Northeast Florida and statewide Florida coordinated service for multi-region contractors.
Switching from WM
To switch an existing WM roll-off account, call (904) 395-CANS with the WM contract end date (or the next available cancellation window), the container sizes you currently run, the jobsite addresses, and your current per-pull rate including FEC. We quote the switch in writing the same business day.
